The iOS 14.5 Controversy

Apple IOS 14.5 came out recently. The update comes with a big change: Apple is blocking targeted ads.

Companies like Facebook, Google, Bumble and Snapchat are upset. And understandably so. This directly hurts all of their business models.

Basically, users now have to give companies permission to track their information across the various apps that they use. Most people say no to this, naturally. The result? Companies like Facebook are hurt as their revenue models (how they usually operate) are dramatically affected.

According to Facebook, users are EIGHT times more likely to purchase things when targeted ads are not blocked. That is a big change.

So while this does hurt many business models, the update seems to be a win for the everyday citizen. Isn’t it a little strange that these companies were able to just track us as we navigate through the web and various apps?

This is a step in the right direction and a win for technological privacy.

Lets hope that Apple continues this trend in the tech market. They have the ability to lead the way.

Tim Cook and Mark Zuckerberg have even publicly clashed about this. That’s when you know big bucks are in play.

Then again, it’s hard to feel sorry for people who have made hundreds of billions of dollars..

Please comment with your thoughts below. I am sure there will be more to come regarding this subject as we see how it unfolds.
